Welcome Husky Muslim! This page serves as a quick startup guide for Muslim life on the UW campus. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us.

Daily Prayer

Daily prayers (and by that we mean Thuhr and Asr) are conducted in a room that is reserved on a per quarter basis. Currently the room reserved is in Kane Hall, in the mezzanine floor. Prayer rugs and sisters' prayer clothes are available. Sisters may pray in the room and are requested to post the "sister praying" sign on the door knob.

With the exception of those who have back to back classes, it is highly encouraged for those who do have some time to spare to pray at the Islamic House, which is roughly a 10 min walk from campus. That way you can get the thawaab of walking to the masjid and praying in one too :) .

Friday Prayer

Friday Prayer is performed at the Islamic House near campus. Visit the Islamic House page for more details.

Mailing List

The MSA maintains a mailing list with important news and announcements. To subscribe please visit the Contact Us page and request to be added onto the listserv.

Halal Dining

We are quite fortunuate here at the University of Washington to have the luxury of access to a variety of halal cuisines. Generally located on Univerity Avenue ("The Ave"), restaurants that serve halal meat range from Shalimar's (indian cuisine) to Aladdins (middle eastern cuisine). For a complete list of places to go and locations, visit the restaurant index here.

Lodging and Roommates

If you are looking for a Muslim roommate, you can contact us on the Contact Us page and we'll send out a mass email on the listserve asking for people to help. Eventually, a classifieds list (like Craigslist) will be added to the site. TBA.  Also, if you are applying for a room in one of the residence halls, you have the option of indicating a roommate preference on your application (i.e. you already have roommate picked out, and you want to apply to room with this person and they will apply to room with you).

For International Students

While the MSA members come from all around the world, the MSAUW in itself does not specialize in providing information to help international students who are interested in attending the UW. However, there is an organization on campus that does! They are the Foundation for International Understanding Through Students (FIUTS). Visit their website for more information. If you would prefer to speak to another Muslim international student at UW, then please feel free to contact us.

Miscellaneous

There are plenty of activities organized by the MSA. Feel free to explore this website for more information.

The nearest Masjid to UW is the Northgate Mosque on 15th and Northgate Way. You can get there on Metro bus routes 73 and 75.

Visit our resources page for links to other Islamic centers and facilities.
