About the Board

The MSA officers invite you to communicate your ideas and concerns to them. Even if you all you need is academic advice, the officers are here for you, willing to provide you with whatever assistance you may require. MSA is here to provide Muslims on campus with the resources and support they need in order to make their college experience better.

Not Muslim? The officers are more than willing to help provide you with resources and information on Islam. MSA is all about outreach to the community and to non-Muslims as well. If you have any questions regarding Islam, please feel free to use the contact form and email us!

What exactly does each position entail?

» President: responsible for the general supervision and guidance of the MSA; responsible for running efficient, active, and motivating meetings; strives to lead the MSA forward and to see that the MSA fulfills its vision and purpose

» Vice President: assists the president in his/her duties, or fulfills the role of president when the president is unable

» Secretary: keeps an organized record of important MSA files and takes meeting minutes; responsible for keeping up to date on MSA affairs and keeping the other officers informed of their tasks

» Treasurer: keeps track of financial records for the MSA; handles reimbursments; sees that sees that MSA is able to financially support its goal oriented projects and fun-filled activities

» Public Relations: in charge of MSA publicity and communicates with other community groups/organizations or media; strives to promote a true and positive image of the MSA and Muslims in general

» Internal Development Coordinator: oversees internal MSA development and works with the UW campus Muslim community; strives to encourage a growth and involvement in membership, thus keeping the MSA vibrant and alive; strives to present the true and positive image of MSA to Muslims on campus

» Islamic House Director: oversees maintainence and construction/renovation of the Islamic House; head of the visionary Islamic House committee which strives to promote the Islamic House as a community center and a place where youth can better themselves

» ASUW Senator: Represent the MSAUW in the ASUW Student Senate. The ASUW Student Senate is comprised of students from campus organizations, living groups, and students chosen from the campus at-large. Every week the ASUW Student Senate gathers to discuss issues important to students at the University of Washington and establish resolutions of student opinion. These resolutions help guide ASUW elected leaders and dedicated volunteers as they represent students on Shared Governance Committees. All students are welcome to submit legislation for the Senate to debate, and while only Senators may vote, there are openings available for students interested in serving a term as a Senator.
